After mistakenly considering her car as a stolen one, Aurora Police have issued an apology after officers draw weapons on a woman and four children.
Mistaken Identity They Said
Sickening footage has emerged of a family of five being stopped by Aurora Police, in what they've claimed a "mistake" after drawing weapons on them. The ordeal, more like "harassment" was recorded, and the footage was shared on Facebook showing the family in distress whilst handcuffed, face down on the floor.
The family included Brittney Gilliam and her two daughters aged six and twelve, as well as Brittney's nieces aged fourteen and seventeen. Aurora Police considered their actions in order to verify claims that the car she was driving wasn't stolen, the reason for the "harsh" encounter.
Visibly traumatised and shaken, the young victims can be heard crying as spectators questioned the police over their "excessive use of force", for having their guns drawn on the inoffensive subjects. The footage has sparked further injustice controversies surrounding police actions, when dealing with people of a black ethnicity.
In an interview with CNN, Gilliam said she was taking the girls to get their nails done, before Aurora police pulled up behind them. The police yelled at them with commands, forcing them to get out of the vehicle with their hands up. They were told to lay face down on the floor.
"If you wanted to place me in handcuffs at that point, I would have gladly agreed to that because you had a job to do and you did it under the right protocol, but you pointed a gun at four kids and then you proceeded to start handcuffing the kids," Gilliam reportedly said to CNN.
The Interim Chief of Police Vanessa Wilson has apologised and offered "age-appropriate therapy", on the expense of the city, to those affected. In a statement posted to Twitter, Wilson said: "I have called the family to apologize and to offer any help we can provide, especially for the children who may have been traumatized by yesterday's events,"
"I have reached out to our victim advocates so we can offer age-appropriate therapy that the city will cover."

The incident comes after the tragic murder of George Floyd, the unarmed African-American man killed by Minneapolis Police in May, and renewed scrutiny following the police killings of including Elijah McClain, who died in police custody, and Breonna Taylor.
In other news, remember that chaotic rally that Kanye West had for the presidential election where he spoke about abortion, and slavery? Well, he had much more to say about abortion days after his intial breakdown, but this time it concerned "black babies".
