The 'Yeezy' pioneer and self described genius, posted tweets concerning his own abortion experiences and statistical rates affecting 'black babies'.
Kanye West Invokes The Abortion Debate, Again
Over the last few weeks, anything concerning the "Wash Us In The Blood" rapper and fashion designer Kanye West (Ye), hasn't necessarily been positive, as the mogul battles with his oscillating state of mind, due to his biplor disorder.
The Chicago native, and 43-year-old husband to Kim Kardashian, recently went into what some have called a "meltdown" during his campaign tour for the US presidential election, in Charleston, South Carolina.
The rapper's campaign ended in chaos as he rambled about "slavery", and emotionally addressed "abortion" referencing his 7-year-old daughter North West. In further turmoil, he later compared himself to Daniel Kaluuya's character Chris from the horror thriller "Get Out", and likened momager - a portmanteau of mom and manager - Kris Jenner to the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
After a cooling down period, Ye took to Twitter to apologise to his wife of 6 years and asked for forgiveness, for sharing intimate matters with the public. The rapper said: "I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter.
"I did not cover her like she has covered me.To [sic] Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me."
Since then, all seemed well until the King of Gossip TMZ, shared images of the couple, in what appeared to be a contentious argument, with Kim visibly distressed after she failed to convince him to seek mental health assistance.
Kanye West's Abortion Tweets
Cut a long story short, Ye tweeted on 31 July expressing how he felt about his "thoughts" of aborting his "first born". In a totally random tweet following his last on the 25 July, which included an image of the cover art to his pending "Donda" album, Ye said:
"I cried at the thought of aborting my first born and everyone was so concerned about me... I'm concerned for the world that feels you shouldn't cry about this subject." The tweet received 45k retweets and 245.4k likes at the time of writing this.
With no surprise, his message was met with mixed responses. Some users who were clearly dissatisfied with his comments stressed the common "her body, her choice" argument, and urged the "Stronger" artist to stop being "dramatic about it". Others however, sympathised with Ye with one saying: "Who wouldn't cry at the thought of their child not existing."
The Tatic of 4 Ds: #DistractDiscreditDismissDestroy
Shortly after posting the tweet that divided opinions Ye posted another, but unrelated to abortion. The tweet gave us the impression that he felt targeted, or somewhat hounded by dark forces. "There is a tactic of 4 D's... Distract... Discredit... Dismiss... To Destroy... I am quite alright... Take a second and think about what is being projected here", the tweet read.
With all honesty, we thought the "tatic of 4 Ds" was important to mention and acknowledge (#DistractDiscreditDismissDestroy). Believe it or not, Kanye West may have his difficulties in relation to mental health, but he does make salient points now and again.
Without any text, or captions, Ye posted an article related to Planned Parenthood's decision to remove Margaret Sanger's name from a NYC clinic. Giving us an insight of what he was likely consuming before posting about "aborting black babies", the article focuses on one of Planned Parenthood's founders, Margaret Sanger, over her "harmful connections to the eugenics movement."
In a statement by the chair of Planned Parenthood of New York, Karen Seltzer said: "The removal of Margaret Sanger's name from our building is both a necessary and overdue step to reckon with our legacy and acknowledge Planned Parenthood's contributions to historical reproductive harm within communities of color," - you see where this is going?
His last tweet then highlighted the number of "black babies" aborted for over half a century, we assume in the United States. For clarity, we have not verified the number claimed in the post however, we've asked Planned Parenthood for comment. The tweet read: "Over 22,500,000 black babies have been aborted over the past 50 years."
Is Abortion Overlooked In The Black Community?
According to the Arizona Capitol Times, the tragedy of legalised abortion is often overlooked within the African American community. The article, which was published in mid February 2020 and written by Republican Walt Blackman, suggests that abortion disproportionately affects black women at a higher rate than others.
The article references astonishing abortion figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Protecting Black Lives. It also criticises Planned Parenthood for "targeting" African American and Hispanic neighbourhoods, for having facilities within walking distance of minority communities. What Do You Think?
Kanye West has clearly been in the wrong state of mind for a while now, and we sincerely wish him recovery. We honestly don't know what he wants to convey, but we do have questions. Is he disappointed in "Kanye past" for his thoughts of aborting North? or "is Kanye West simply anti-abortion?"
