Actress Naya Rivera Has Died
The "Glee" star Naya Marie Rivera has died, aged 33, US authorities have confirmed. The confirmation was made on Monday at a press conference by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, who identified her body at Lake Piru, California.
The Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub clarified that there was no indication of a suicide or foul play. Some fans were concerned that some of Naya's social media posts contained "eerie content". The concerns were enough to raise self harm speculation surrounding her death; thankfully not.
It was sadly reported that Naya Rivera was deemed missing on July 8 at Lake Piru, after her four-year-old son Josey was found alone by fellow boaters. After five days of an intense search and rescue operation, and amid numerous obstacles and lower water visibility, her body was recovered in the lake.
What turned out to be day out for herself and son Josey, turned out to be a nightmare for her loved ones - see her last image below. According to reports, Josey is said to have told investigators that his mother was swimming, and could not make it back to the boat. She was not wearing a life jacket.
After enthralling hearts and captivating audiences playing Santana Lopez on "Glee", the ruthless cheerleader who came out as gay during the show's course, she would be apart of the cast to receive several nominations at the Grammys, Teen Choice Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Rivera is survived by her son Josey Hollis Dorsey, for whom she shared with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, her parents George Rivera and Yolanda Rivera; NFL player and younger brother Mychal, and model sister Nickayla.
Her body was recovered on the seventh year anniversary of her "Glee" co-star Cory Monteith's death. REST IN PEACE Naya Marie Rivera, January 12, 1987 – July 8, 2020.
