The condition sometimes referred to as Stockholm Syndrome is when captives form an emotional bond with their captors. Just hold the thought of falling in love with your kidnapper for moment.
Fall In Love With Who?
The person who possibly kindapped you, or kept you captive for whatever reason. It sounds crazy we know, but Stockholm Syndrome really is a strange phenomenon still baffling many intrigued, and is a "contested illness" due to doubt about the legitimacy of the condition. Emotional bonds are sometimes formed between captor, and captives even when they are considered "irrational", pertinent to the danger or risk suffered by victims.
Why Stockholm?
Lets take you back to 1973 in the heart of Sweden, and it's capital city Stockholm. The term was coined by the media after the Norrmalmstorg Robbery where convicted felon Jan-Erik Olsson took three women, and a man - bank employees - hostage. Jan-Erik couldn't handle the situation on his own so negotiated the release of his friend Clark Olofsson from prison - as you do - who helped keep captives for 6 days in a bank vault. After the ordeal when hostages were released not one of them would testify against their captors, and raised money for their defense - as you really do lol.
Natascha Kampusch
This stories a little weird entailing Nastascha Kampusch, and the weirdo who captured her Wolfgang Priklopil. Natascha was kidnapped at the tender age of 10, and was isolated in a dark room under a garage. After 8 years of being kidnapped she leaves, and Wolfgang ends his life. Police reported that Natascha lamented and kept a picture of him in her wallet - wait what? Even after being sexually abused, controlled, and forced to permissive treatment from her captor, Kampusch now owns the house in which she was imprisoned, saying, "I know it's grotesque – I must now pay for electricity, water and taxes on a house I never wanted to live in".
