Infamous 'Woi' UK Drill rap artist Digga D, admits dealing cannabis on a 'not for profit basis' after his home was raided by armed police on Instagram Live.
What's Next For The Notorious D.I.G?
Sheesh, could Digs be facing a lengthy bird? Popular UK Drill rapper Digga D, whose real name is Rhys Angelo Emile Herbert, has pleaded guilty to drug-related charges at Lincoln Crown Court. The 23-year-old artist, who's widely respected for his raw lyrical content and unmissable turbulent history with the law, faced the court via video link from Wormwood Scrubs prison, donning a grey Nike top and jogging bottoms.
Digga D, who is known for tracks such as "Bluuwuu" and "No Diet", admitted to importing cannabis on or before July 11, 2023, and supplying the drug to others between October 2022 and February 21, 2023. Despite his claims that the drugs were primarily for personal use (and not for sale), the prosecution found this explanation unacceptable. Not to undermine Digga D, but would you believe he was gifting the mandem dank on a "not for profit basis?"
Digga D Upcoming Legal Proceedings
Judge Simon Hirst has postponed the case for further examination by prosecution and drug experts, with a potential Newton Hearing on the horizon to determine the extent of Digga D's involvement. Meanwhile, the rapper remains in custody, awaiting the next court session scheduled for July. "In the meantime you remain remanded into custody," Judge Hirst told Herbert.
The legal spotlight on Digga D intensified after his arrest was live-streamed on Instagram from a residence in Bracebridge Heath, near Lincoln. To nobody's actual surprise, the high-profile nature of his arrest and subsequent court appearances has kept Digga D fans and critics alike on edge. Based on his past history, and without sounding like a legal-person, he's likely facing a custodial sentence (or probation at the least).
Digga D's defense, led by barrister James Scobie KC, highlighted his status as a prominent musician surrounded by cannabis users. Apparently many. Scobie emphasised that the cannabis was not for commercial profit but rather shared among peers. For clarity, Digga D is said to have imported three kilos of cannabis, supposedly for himself. He also underscored Herbert's packed performance schedule, urging the court to expedite the proceedings to allow the artist to fulfill his summer tour commitments.
Digga D's Previous Legal Madness!
This isn't Digga D's first run-in with the law. In 2018, he was sentenced to two-and-a-half years for conspiring in a violent knife fight involving rival gangs. His release came with stringent conditions, including a ban on releasing music that referenced gang violence - a judge banned Digga D and other members of the 1011 street gang from producing videos without police approval under a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) - aiming to mitigate further conflict.
The CGM rapper's legal troubles have sparked significant public and media reaction. The BBC faced backlash for producing a documentary about Digga D following his prison release, stirring public debate on the ethics of glorifying figures with criminal backgrounds. UK Drill, the rap-based music genre Digga D is associated with, has been partially blamed for a rise in violent crimes, including stabbings and shootings, as well as the increased involvement of young people in County Lines.
County Lines, as described by the National Crime Agency, involves the transportation of illegal drugs from one area to another, often across police and local authority boundaries. This operation usually involves children or vulnerable people who are coerced into it by gangs. The 'County Line' is the mobile phone line used to take drug orders. Importing areas, where the drugs are delivered, have reported increased levels of violence and weapons-related crimes as a result of this trend.
Digga D's Rise to Fame
Born on June 29, 2000, Rhys Angelo Emile Herbert, professionally known as Digga D, has become a significant figure in the UK Drill scene. Rising to fame in 2017 with his collective CGM, Digga D's mixtapes have consistently performed well on the UK Albums Chart. His mixtapes Double Tap Diaries and Made In The Pyrex reached No. 11 and 3, respectively. His third mixtape, Noughty By Nature, debuted at number one, solidifying his place in the music industry.
His latest mixtape, Back To Square One, released in August 2023, continues to showcase his evolving artistry. How about Digga D's influence on the UK Drill Scene? Considered a pioneer of the UK Drill genre, Digga D has made substantial contributions to the music scene despite his legal troubles. He is the founder of Black Money Records (BMR) and is managed by Groundworks. His influence and reach in the music world are undeniable, with millions of fans tuning in to his releases.
Relationship Spotlight: Queue Tennessee Thresher!
As far as Tanizzle is concerned, irrespective of deleted posts of the pair kissing, Digga D is dating fashion model, baddie, and influencer Tennessee Thresher. The pair's relationship has been the subject of much speculation and media coverage, especially after being spotted together in Greece, sparking rumors of a romantic getaway. This relationship continues to captivate fans, with Thresher's name frequently appearing in search trends alongside the rapper.
But what happened to Mya Mills, did he park the brakes on her? LOL, sorry for the sarcasm, but she's previous news! Mya Mills, Digga D's former flame, appears to be doing well, despite their split. The breakup became evident when the couple stopped following each other on social media, namely Instagram, causing speculation to run rampant. The rapper's lyrics and public statements have consistently reflected his affection for Thresher, marking a clear move away from his past relationships.
Tanizzle Says
Digga D's story is one of significant highs and lows, from chart-topping successes to ongoing legal battles. As one of the leading figures in UK Drill (and one of the GOATs, in our humble opinion), his influence on the genre is profound, and his personal life continues to draw public interest. With upcoming court appearances and a burgeoning music career, Digga D remains a compelling figure in music.
In true Trap Lore Ross fashion, Tanizzle would like to offer a parting thought. We wish Digga D well and hope he considers the consequences before importing kilos of cannabis into the country, avoiding further scrutiny over "not for profit basis" dealing. Yes, Digga D is famous and wealthy, but if we were to step into the shoes of a prosecutor, given his criminal history, we'd likely be just as unforgiving.
