We don't need to lie, we're big fans of Drake but the 6 God may have bit off more than he could chew after responding to Compton's finest, Kendrick Lamar.
The Hip-Hop Battle of the Decade
Is Champagne Papi taking the L? Could he ever? As much as we want to jump to Aubrey's defence considering we're fans, we can't. Instead we'll stay neutral and pretend we're not affected by the humiliation he's facing against West Coast's Kendrick Lamar, 36, who is evidently giving the listeners enough to think about including "Not Like Us." So what's good? Nothing for Drake (lets be honest) but a fierce feud erupted between two made-men of the industry.
Over the past week, the music world has been blessed with a barrage of diss tracks exchanged between the two artists, as they vie for dominance in the rap game. Kendrick Lamar, made headlines with the release of "Not Like Us," a track that pulled no punches, accusing Drake, aged 37, of unsavory behavior and dubbing him and his associates "certified ped*philes." The song's scathing lyrics struck a chord with listeners, catapulting it to the top of Spotify's charts and breaking the platform's single-day streaming record for a hip-hop song, garnering an impressive 6.5 million listens.
How did that f with Drake's reign we hear you asking? Well, this achievement marked a significant milestone in Lamar's ongoing problems with the Canadian inspiration, surpassing the streaming numbers of Drake's previous record holder, "Girls Want Girls," released in 2021. Damn!
How Drake and Lamar's Beef Began
Drake's and Lamar's beef traces back over a decade, but the latest battle can be traced back to an October song from Drake and J. Cole - the one that unfortunately folded! - ("First Person Shooter"), where they dubbed themselves the "big three" of rap alongside Lamar. Lamar, however, responded with a cutting line in his song "Like That," asserting, "It's just big me." And thus, the issue was reignited. Did you see it coming, because we did!
The exchange escalated with Drake's response track, "Push Ups," sparking a flurry of back-and-forth releases, including "Taylor Made Freestyle," "Euphoria," "Family Matters," "Meet the Grahams," "6:16 in LA," "Not Like Us," and "The Heart Part 6." These tracks have not only showcased the lyrical prowess of both artists but have also delved into serious allegations that would probably take the spotlight off Diddy (likely to his delight!), ranging from secret children to sexual misconduct.
But the feud took a darker turn with the shocking incident outside Drake's Toronto mansion. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, shots rang out, injuring a security guard. While it remains unclear if the shooting is directly related to the ongoing negatives, it's impossible to ignore the eerie connection to Lamar's use of a Google Maps image of the home as the cover art for "Not Like Us." Drake's cryptic response on social media, coupled with police investigations, only adds to the mystery surrounding the incident. Who did it?
The Disrespect Is Real: OVO Graffiti
As the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar reaches fever pitch, the battlefield extends beyond mere words to physical acts of defiance. Drake's iconic OVO store in London was vandalised adding a new layer of sh*t to the already intense rivalry. Pictures surfaced on Tuesday revealing the vandalized front window of the London OVO store, adorned with the ominous message, "they not like us." This chilling phrase, lifted from Kendrick Lamar's scathing diss track "Not Like Us."
The silver paint jab, etched onto the glass window of the shop located in the legendary Carnaby Street, stands as a gassed reminder of the heated tensions between the two rappers. Despite the bold act of defiance, no individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the vandalism, leaving authorities baffled as they scramble to unravel the latest nonsense. With emotions running high and allegiances fiercely divided, the battle lines are drawn, and the stakes have never been higher.
