Is Twitch about to lose all its great stars? The streaming platform has banned its most popular streamer, Kai Cenat, for alleged terms of service violations.
Why Did Twitch Ban Kai Cenat?
It's becoming a habit (deleting streamers)! Twitch, the Amazon-owned video-streaming platform has recently banned one of its most favoured livestreamers, Kai Cenat, 21, for allegedly violating the platform's terms of service. Cenat holds the record for having the most subscriptions to his channel, with over 300,000 at its climax.
At the time of writing this, Cenat's channel displayed a message stating that: "This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service." In a tweet, Cenat confirmed that he has been "BANNED" from the platform that's quickly becoming extremely nonchalant for excluding its most attractive stars - including Adin Ross and iShowSpeed.
What is Twitch? Twitch is a platform where streamers typically play video games while chatting to their viewers. The platform has become incredibly popular in recent years, and many streamers have managed to build huge followings, in addition to mouth-watering amounts of money considering sponsorships, affiliate marketing (commission links), advertising, and various other methods.
Who Is Kai Cenat?
Kai Cenat is a young and popular American live streamer and YouTuber, known for his hilarious content on YouTube and live streams on Twitch. He made history in February 2023 when he broke the record for the most-subscribed Twitch streamer of all time during a month-long subathon, surpassing the previous record held by Ludwig. Cenat was also named "Streamer of the Year" at the 12th Streamy Awards and the 2023 Streamer Awards.
While Twitch has not released any information about the reason behind Cenat's ban (some users are suggesting it relates to explicit sexual content whilst playing GTA) it is clear that the platform takes its terms of service seriously. Twitch's guidelines state that streamers should not engage in any illegal activity or promote or encourage others to do so. They also prohibit any form of harassment, hate speech, violence, and adult sexual content.
Becoming The King of Twitch
Adding to the story, it's worth noting that Cenat's streaming marathon, which saw him break multiple Twitch subscription records, began at the start of February to mark the beginning of Black History Month (March 2023) in the US. Over the month, he entertained viewers with special guests, including comedian Reggie Brown and a Barack Obama impersonator, and became the first African-American streamer to reach 200,000 Twitch subscribers on February 22nd.
After he confirmed that he had breached the benchmark of 300,000 subscribers on Tuesday, Cenat expressed his gratitude to his fans and supporters, acknowledging that his streaming marathon was the hardest thing he had ever done. During his stream, Cenat said, "Stop saying 'I did it' - we did it. On the last day of Black History Month, we broke 300,000! And I'm so happy I did it with the people around me. I couldn't have chosen anybody else to do this with."
Meanwhile, someone definitely winning without being cancelled by anyone or anything is J.K. Rowling.
