Accio Remote: A Harry Potter Series Is Coming!
Get ready to pack your trunks and head back to Hogwarts because a new "Harry Potter" TV series is officially in the works at HBO Max! Warner Bros. Discovery announced the exciting news during its presentation to press and investors on April 12th, confirming rumors that had been circulating since April 3rd.
The series will be based on the beloved J.K. Rowling book series and will feature an entirely new cast from the films. Each season will be based on one of the books in the franchise, making it a "decade-long series," according to Warner Bros. Discovery. Fans can expect to dive deep into the world of Harry Potter, with the show promising to deliver a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.
In a statement, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, expressed excitement about the project, saying, "We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way. Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years."
Queen J.K Rowling Is Still Winning, Good!
The show will be produced in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with Rowling serving as executive producer alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman, who produced all eight "Harry Potter" films, is also in talks to executive produce.
Rowling spoke about her involvement in the project, saying, "Max's commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series."
The "Harry Potter" franchise has proven to be a cultural phenomenon, with the first book in the series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," being published in 1997. The final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," debuted in 2007. Along with the books, which were all bestsellers, there have been eight "Harry Potter" films that have collectively grossed more than $7.7 billion at the global box office. There is also the "Fantastic Beasts" film franchise, theme park attractions, toys, and games, including the recently launched video game "Hogwarts Legacy." Additionally, there is the hit Broadway show "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which serves as a sequel to the book series.
