When you least expect it, the rich and powerful find a way out of the deepest of holes; but not for Tory Lanez who faces jail for violating (shooting) Megan Thee Stallion.
Damn Tory: From Daystar to jail-star!
Who gets the last laugh, Tory Lanez or Megan Thee Stallion? It's a no brainer, but with the potential consequence of deportation after sitting out (in jail) for three felony convictions including assault with a semi-automatic handgun, Lanez, 30, has caught the biggest "L" of 2022. Periodt!
The Canadian artist, also known as Daystar Peterson, was found guilty by a Los Angeles jury on Friday (23rd December) for shooting the "Hot Girl" rapper, Megan Thee Stallion (born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete), 27, over what was believed to be an argument concerning "romantic entanglements" and career comparisons in 2020.
As bloody stupid as it sounds, the reason for his brutality, which entailed shooting at both Megan's feet, the rapper who stands at the same height as a petite woman (5'3) - sorry we had to, LMAO! - disregarded his actions with the release of a self-titled music project named "Daystar", in which he could be heard denying allegations against him.
Unfortunately for him, the jury, who tapped-out for seven hours for deliberation spanning two-days, found him guilty to the anguish of his family especially his father who was impeded by court bailiffs (who blocked his way), for shouting: "God will judge you". In contrast, Alex Spiro (Megan's lawyer) said in a statement: "The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg".
Meanwhile, Lanez has been booked and charged in case BA490599 at an LA County jail, and faces a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months. A sentencing hearing is due for January 27th, a circumstance we don't think he's going to get off lightly.
While you're here, why not vote?
Black Women Are A Thing, Respect Them
If it wasn't already problematic being a person of colour (POC), imagine what it's like being a POC being trampled on for speaking up after being a victim of crime; initially keeping quite (commonly referred to as "no snitching"). Speaking in support of Megan, District Attorney Gascón couldn't have put it better than us saying:
"You showed incredible courage and vulnerability with your testimony despite repeated and grotesque attacks that you did not deserve."
Continuing: "You faced unjust and despicable scrutiny that no woman should ever face and you have been an inspiration to others across LA County and the nation. Women, especially Black women, are afraid to report crimes like assault and sexual violence because they are too often not believed.
"This trial, for the second time this month, highlighted the numerous ways that our society must do better for women," one said.
