The 'Rockstar' artist, DaBaby, made headlines for all the wrong reasons with misinformed comments on HIV and gay men. The artist happened to cause controversy before his unexpected rants by bringing out Tory Lanez directly after Megan Thee Stallion.
DaBaby Really Missed The Point With His HIV Comments
It's not even been a month since Pride month concluded, but it's back to normal for some individuals who have no cap when it comes to discriminating the LGBTQ+ community.
The "Blame It on Baby" rapper, DaBaby, 29, whose real name is Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, has been heavily criticised for his comments directed towards gay people and victims of HIV, after an unexpected rant during a performance at this year's Rolling Loud Festival Miami.
Controversy: What Did DaBaby Say?
Over the weekend, the rapper, who also goes by the name of "Baby Jesus", could be heard saying: "If you didn't show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that'll make you die in two or three weeks, put your cellphone light up."
If that wasn't enough, he continued with: "Ladies, if your p*ssy smell like water, put your cellphone light up. Fellas, if you ain't sucking d*ck in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up."
DaBaby, who didn't raise his cell phone up after his "parking lot" comment - sorry, we just had to! - clearly lost the plot after claiming HIV will "make you die in two or three weeks", as there's medication available to prolong and promote healthy lives.
Following the backlash - that continues to mount, considering DaBaby's later responses on social media seen below - the UK's leading HIV and Aids charity, Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), had a response of their own.
"It's wrong for people living with HIV to be made to feel lesser or excluded because of their diagnosis - it should be unacceptable in the music industry and in society at large," said Richard Angell, campaigns director at the THT.
He added: "Comments like DaBaby's perpetuate HIV-related stigma and discrimination, as well as spreading misinformation about HIV. You can now live a long, healthy life with HIV thanks to medical progress when you're diagnosed and accessing treatment."
DaBaby, who clearly lacked the intelligence to understand this, failed to fathom that medication to manage HIV and stop it spreading has been available since 1996.
DaBaby's Responds To Backlash, Gets Support From T.I
Unreservedly withheld, and without remorse, DaBaby later took to social media to explain his side of events for which he claims "the internet twisted" his words:
"What I do at a live show is for the audience at the live show. It'll never translate correctly to somebody looking at a little five, six-second clip from their goddamn crib on their phone. It just don't work like that," he said.
He also added: "Because, regardless of what y'all motherf*ckers are talking about and how the internet twisted up my motherf*cking words, me and all my fans at the show, the gay ones and the straight ones, we turned the f*ck up."
Not missing the opportunity to chime in, the "Live Your Life" rapper, T.I, 40, said the North Carolina lyricist was "speaking his truth" with his controversial comments - although it wouldn't take a rocket science to consider his comments "far from truth", especially with his misinformed sentiment.
T.I, whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., somehow brought the "Old Town Road" and "Industry Baby" rapper, Lil Nas X, into the equation by comparing his opinions with Lil Nas X's sexuality, being a proud gay man, for which he has numerously expressed in his music (including videos).
"If you have a Lil Nas X video, and him living his truth, you gone damn sure have people like DaBaby who are going to speak they truth. There ain't nothing wrong with none of that. It ain't got to be no hate, it's all honesty," T.I was heard saying.
DaBaby Brings Out Tory Lanez After Megan Thee Stallion
We don't necessarily think that DaBaby has anything to prove - a dig at Megan perhaps, or just showcasing his latest work? - but it's seriously twisted to bring out a performer (at Rolling Loud Festival Miami) who allegedly shot the person who literally performed before them.
To think that Megan Thee Stallion, 26, and DaBaby were once frequent collaborators is truly mind-boggling, irrespective, DaBaby didn't seem phased to bring out his surprise guest performer, Tory Lanez, 29, to perform straight after the "Savage" rapper.
After revealing Lanez, who came onto the stage a wearing a custom that remsembled himself (his character/appearance), DaBaby said: "I'll give somebody out here a million dollars if they can guess who in here," before hyping the crowd with their performance of "Skat" - their latest collab.
Although the motive was unknown, DaBaby then became the target of an Adidas shoe thrown at him - internet users suggest it had something to do with Lanez's performance, however, this is unfounded. Narrowly missing the "adida" sneaker, DaBaby said:
"Who the fuck threw that motherf*cking busted-ass god damn Adida."
This comes after Megan Thee Stallion once said on Twitter: "support me in private and publicly do something different... these industry men are very strange. This situation ain't no damn 'beef' and I really wish people would stop down playing it like it's some internet shit for likes and retweets."
