Internet users debate whether the 'Hotline Bling' artist, Drake, 'put on' several UK lyricists including Skepta, Headie One, Dave and Giggs, after 9Bills claimed that he did so.
Did Drake Put On Or Embrace U.K Artists?
Relax, we don't think he "put on" anyone, LOL! The internet seemed to be divided with a narrative that suggests the "God's Plan" artist, Drake, 34, "put on" (made prominent) Skepta, Giggs, Dave and Headie One.
Although there seemed to be a few users who agreed with the notion, the majority of responses we acknowledged were in disagreement with, 9Bills, a UK music and culture commentator, who sparked the trending debate.
What Did 9Bills Say?
Well, accompanied with a video, 9Bills originally asked the question, "Did the UK music scene need Drake to blow?" In the video, evidently divided, the hosts went back and forth with one saying, "we don't need Drake to blow, thank you very much, we don't need him."
Although we don't think the UK scene "needed Drake to blow" - it's the bloody word "needed" that triggers us LOL! - we did agree, partially, with another opinion about "exposure".
"We did need Drake though. I think we did need Drake," a host began. She then went onto explain why, saying: "Drake shed a light on a lot of people; on a lot of people, people didn't know," - yes, this is true considering his music collabs including freestyle sessions, "Top Boy" association and more.
Triggering the masses, 9Bills later added to one's initial Twitter thread, saying: "Drake put on Skepta, Giggs, Dave and Headie One on to the global stage, brought back Top Boy & worked with UK producers on a number of tracks. Also dropped a behind bars on Link UpTV."
Mimi The Music Blogger Said It Best
There's no harm in giving credit where it's due, but the UK didn't "need" Drake to blow. We were doing perfectly fine without Aubrey, and let's not forget how we inspired him and that blatant UK drill sound being rinsed stateside.
Drake is definitely an inspiration for everyone and we really appreciate his successes and how he's embraced our music and culture - but that's it. On that note, let's leave you with something Mimi the Music Blogger said on Twitter, because it hits LOL!
"There's a big difference between PUT ON and EMBRACE. Drake didn't put on Skepta, Giggs, Dave or Headie one... he embrace them. Drake embrace the U.K. scene he didn't build shit. You are giving way too much credit lol," she said.
Meanwhile... Skepta and Bottega Veneta
A special shout out to Skepta, who has become one of many influential faces called upon by the creative director of Bottega Veneta, Daniel Lee, for it's "Wardrobe 02 Collection".
Faces joined alongside Skepta include, Slowthai, Little Simz, Neneh Cherry and Tricky, Malachi Kirby, and Small Axe to name a few.
