The Queen of UK Drill, Ivorian Doll, broke down in tears after accusing the entrepreneur Oliver Ashley of career obstruction.
Locked In Music Locks Ivorian Doll Out
This news somehow managed to fly over our heads and its a shocker considering that we're fans of the Queen of UK Drill music.
Vanessa Mahi (22), professionally known as Ivorian Doll (IVD), recently shared a series of Tweets documenting her legal burdens concerning a British billionaire's son.
Oliver Ashley (30), who happens to be the offspring of the sporting goods magnate, Mike Ashley (56), has been accused of obstructing the "Rumours" rapper's career, with a petty move surrounding trademarks.
What Did Ivorian Doll Say About Oliver Ashley?
In her Twitter thread, IVD explained her legal wrangles with the ex boss of Radar Radio, and what he was allegedly doing to her.
The "Body Bag" lyricist accused Oliver of playing foul after she accepted a record deal with him, even when the terms of their partnership may have been inconsiderate.
Several weeks after signing the record deal, IVD allegedly received a phone call from JPL (her current manager). JPL informed her that she was being accused of "bullying" a new staff member, hired to work on her project.
Momentarily, Oliver organised a meeting with IVD to discuss the claims of bullying made against JPL. After attending the meeting, which involved Oliver and his lawyer Jonathan Monjack, IVD would describe the encounter as an "ambush".
She claims that Oliver was determined to fire JPL regardless of whether bullying took place or not. She was subsequently told to look for a new manager.
"I was so so distraught I felt so lost so when I went home I called my lawyer to tell him what had happened he was very livid and said this was their plan all along. I asked him can I make her my manager he said yes," she said.
Unmoved by Oliver's demands and confident enough to keep JPL as her manager, IVD would go onto release "Rumours", the drill intense bop that helped cement her place in the male-dominated UK drill scene. Although the track was a success with fans, underneath the veil, it was the "worst release of my life", she explained.
"They didn't want to do no promo and kept blaming ADA for lack of promo.. me and JPL had to put our hands in our own pockets and pay for promotion."
What Is Oliver Ashley Using Against Ivorian Doll?
In a critical blow to her image, Ivorian Doll may not be able to use her stage names, if, the trademark applications aren't contested.
Tanizzle found that a company directed by Oliver Ashley, Locked In Music Limited, had indeed registered for two monikers commonly used by the star. In two seperate registrations, the word marks "IVORIAN DOLL" (UK00003548776) and "IVD" (UK00003548803), were both filed on October 27, 2020.
At the time of writing this article, all registrations were in their examination stages, including an EU trademark for "IVORIAN DOLL" (EU018325049).
Without surprise, fans weren't too happy with her revelations. One intellect advised IVD to block Oliver's registration and counter trademark the name herself.
She said: "Oppose the Trademark @IvorianDoll_ it's £100 to do so. And since Oliver filed your trademark on 27th October 2020 it is still under examination for 2 months before it is registered, so you can easily get Oliver's registration blocked and trademark your name yourself."
What Do You Think?
We believe her ordeal is a daunting one. Oliver Ashley's decision to deprive her of what she's highly recognised by, is distasteful and beyond words. Tanizzle asked JPL for future updates on the matter #FreeIVD.
